raindrops and lovers

Rain dribbles down drains
Pools into puddles
Reflecting the city skyline
and kissing couples
lining the streets
oblivious to the deluge
drenching their shirts
their hair
but not their ardour
as they claw their way
into another world.

Nature’s disco
drums a steady beat
trees swaying in rhythm
as the cobbled streets
don a slick sheen.
Lovers, arms linked,
pick paths past the puddles
sharing a rare warmth
easily robbed by the wind.

My spectacles
soon spotted in slippery specks
show each droplet reflecting
a microcosm of our world.
My careless breath
fogs it over
misting a once familiar world
into a dreamless reverie.
