Friday Fictioneers: Spread your wings and fly
For Madison Woods‘ Friday 100 word photo-prompt(picture above)-flash-fiction challenge.
The little boy runs in a zig-zag motion with arms stretched out to his sides.
“I want to flyyyy”
She laughs and looks up at the blue sky, vast and open. It whispers to her heart something hopeful.
“Come on aunt Lily, spread your wings and fly.” He takes her arms and flaps them.
His words float around in her head calling forth a song.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night.
It fills her head. She closes her eyes and inhales.
“Are we gonna fly aunt lily are we, are we, are we?”
She took another deep breath allowing the fragrance of the fresh pine trees to inflate her. She feels like a big colourful balloon that, full of dreams, escape upwards from fun-fairs.
She stretches her wings and waits for the wind.
He stands beside her, on tiptoes, hands stretched out, eyes closed watching them float through the clouds like that bloated blimp, smiling.
All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise.
