Friday Flash: Ocean

Living next to your skin, its prickliness. I feel you fading into yourself, its begun even before the day has. You’ve allowed yourself to sink again, I look into your eyes and try to retrieve you. Some days it surfaces, this liveliness and words and questions and things that appear like explosions, brightening the dullness of the room, but I’m not deceived by the light-show. I want to tell you its OK, to stay submerged, I won’t be going anywhere. The days when you do actually appear – I sense you there, you are tender and gentle, you smile a simple smile that needs no reason to be. You’re finally here, with me, and this moment seems to me – like the only thing I’ve ever really wanted.
